For this addition project in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Karlovec & Company added a minimalist and shady front porch addition onto the south-facing home, creating a simple outdoor living space for homeowners and a charming and welcoming entry for guests. After seeing the porch for the first time former Shaker Heights Mayor, Judy Rawson, said “how lovely, we could use more front porches!”
Project: | Front Porch Addition, Exterior |
Location: | Winslow Road Shaker Heights, Ohio |
Built: | c. 1926 |
Challenges: | Integration of roof line while also providing proper head height on the porch and avoiding windows on first and second floor. It was a tight fit! |
Features: | Bead board ceiling; custom-built cedar shutters; recessed can lighting. |
Comments: | If feels so private even though it’s on a busy street. |
“We love being outside and this allows for that to happen, even during a thunderstorm. And there’s nothing better than sitting on a covered porch during a thunderstorm!”
